Patient:

Fully Dentate

This new flow is based on sound prosthodontic principles and has yielded excellent results in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.

However, it is important to note that in order to achieve a positive outcome, it is essential that we collect and analyze quality data. Cutting corners or taking shortcuts can compromise the effectiveness of this new flow and potentially lead to negative consequences for your patients.

Therefore, I urge to maintain sound prosthodontic principles when implementing this new flow in our practice.

Required Materials and Technology:

The pre-planning data acquisition requires the following items for you to successfully complete this appointment. Substitution of any materials is at the operator own risk.

Technology:

Good quality calibrated Intra-oral scanner that produce a STL file:

FI3LD Dental Solutions facial scanner (ObiScanner)

Clinical Photographic sequence

Materials:

Ivoclar OptraGate, medium size (Ivoclar )

Dental putty material (Base/Catalyst)

Opening the bite:

If you need to open the bite, do it prior to scanning the patient. All scans are required to be done at the proper VDO for accurate results. We are able to open the bite virtually, but the outcome will not be as accurate, and you might have to make some occlusal adjustments.

If the patient VDO is collapsed due to bruxism or other reasons, reconstruct the VDO by making an orthotic and having the patient wear it during the scans.

Pre-Planning Data Acquisition

  1. IOS Scan

Provide us with a maxillary and mandible scan of your patient following your manufacturer scanning strategy.

Capture all the tooth surfaces and as much of the soft tissue, palate, and anatomical landmarks such as retro molar pad, vestibule, periphery roll, and tuberosities.

To facilitate this process, we highly recommend that you utilize the provided Ivoclar OptraGate, which will assist with the scanning process.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

It is extremely important to provide us with an accurate scan with no missing data points, or your case might be delayed as you would have to reschedule and rescan the patient. If one of your team members is scanning the patient, take a moment to verify that the data is accurate and complete.

If the patient is wearing a partial, take a scan with and without it.

ObiScanner facial scanner

You will need to provide us with four scans:

  1. Exaggerated smile

  2. Natural smile

  3. Repose

  4. Superimposition tray

Scanning Tips:

Before starting the scans, find the proper head position. Make sure your patient’s head is straight and perpendicular to the horizon.

If the patient is wearing a partial denture replacing anterior teeth, keep it place. If the patient has mobile teeth, stabilize them with some composite.
